Kids Interview Bands | (Tegan and Sara)
Kids: Have you ever asked anybody for an autograph, and if so, who did you ask?
Tegan: I recently met — do you know the Swedish pop singer Robyn? You guys have so many things to google when we’re done here.
Uhm, well, she is this really amazing singer from Sweden, and she was really popular in the 90’s and then she kinda disappeared and then she put out an amazing record a couple years ago and got really popular again… and I was shopping at Barnes & Noble in New York, and they made an announcement that Robyn, the Swedish pop star—they actually said that, “Robyn, Swedish pop star is here, playing a few songs and signing autographs!”—and I was all by myself and I was so shy and awkward but I went anyway.
It was, like, you know, exciting for me so I went and I stood in line for 45 minutes. And then when I got to the front I had to decide if I was gonna tell her that I was in a band or if I was just gonna pretend to just be a normal person and just get an autograph. And then I kinda geeked out and I told her that I was in a band with my twin sister and we were called Tegan and Sara.
And I don’t know if she really knew who we were, but she said she did. She was like, “I know your band, I like it a lot!” I was like, that’s nice of Robyn to say that. And then, uhm, she signed my CD, and then, uhm, her security person was like, “If you want a photo, you need ta do it right now!” like he was really strict with me.
So, I looked to the side and I’m like this (makes wacky face) and Robyn is still talking to me, and that’s our photo together: it’s her talking to me and me smiling like a goof, but I got her autograph.
